Terms of Service

The baseline terms for using Lectern. Signed customer agreements control where they say something different.

Last updated: July 6, 2026

This page is a practical operating policy for Lectern. Customer-specific commitments should be confirmed in a signed agreement.

Using Lectern

These Terms govern use of lectern.systems, the intake flow, customer portal, and the Lectern academy operations platform. If your academy has a separate signed agreement with us, that agreement controls where it conflicts with these Terms.

Lectern is intended for academies, their staff, parents, and SAT/ACT/AP prep students who are 13 or older. Users under 18 may use the service only with permission from a parent, guardian, or academy authorized to provide access. Users under 13 may not use Lectern unless we have a separate written agreement that specifically permits that use.

Accounts and access

You are responsible for keeping account credentials secure and for activity under your account. Academy customers are responsible for authorizing users, assigning appropriate roles, and removing access when it is no longer needed.

You may not access another academy's data, attempt to bypass tenant boundaries, share credentials, or use the service in a way that interferes with its security or reliability.

Customer data and student records

Academy customers own the data they submit to Lectern. They grant Lectern the limited rights needed to host, process, transmit, display, analyze, and back up that data to provide and improve the service.

Academy customers are responsible for having the rights, permissions, and notices required to submit student, parent, staff, and operational data to Lectern. We will use customer data only as described in our Privacy Policy, these Terms, and any applicable customer agreement.

Acceptable use

You agree not to misuse Lectern or use it for unlawful, harmful, or abusive activity.

  • Do not upload malware, attempt unauthorized access, probe or attack systems, or disrupt the service.
  • Do not use Lectern to collect or process data you are not authorized to handle.
  • Do not submit content that infringes others' rights, violates law, or exposes sensitive information unrelated to the academy services.
  • Do not reverse engineer, scrape, resell, or benchmark the service except as allowed by a signed agreement or law.

AI-assisted features

Some Lectern features use AI to extract, classify, summarize, verify, or organize academy materials. AI output can be incomplete or wrong and should be reviewed by authorized staff before being relied on for important decisions.

You are responsible for making sure uploaded materials may be processed by Lectern and its subprocessors. Lectern does not claim ownership of academy materials because they are processed by AI-assisted features.

Intellectual property

Lectern and its software, designs, workflows, documentation, trademarks, and underlying technology belong to Lectern or its licensors. These Terms do not transfer ownership of Lectern technology to you.

You keep ownership of your customer data and academy materials. Feedback, suggestions, or ideas you provide may be used by Lectern without restriction or compensation.

Payments and customer agreements

Commercial terms such as pricing, implementation scope, renewal, cancellation, support commitments, and service levels should be handled in an order form or master services agreement.

If no separate written agreement applies, we may suspend or terminate access for nonpayment, misuse, security risk, or violation of these Terms.

Disclaimers and limits

Lectern is provided on an as-is and as-available basis except where a signed agreement says otherwise. We do not promise that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or fit for every academy workflow.

To the maximum extent allowed by law, Lectern will not be liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, special, punitive, or lost-profit damages. Any liability cap in a signed customer agreement controls for that customer.

Changes

We may update these Terms as the service changes. If changes are material, we will provide reasonable notice by posting the updated terms, emailing customers, or using another appropriate channel.
